Vancouver International Airport named 2016’s best airport in the world

Passenger traffic to YVR increased by five per cent last year to 20.3 million travelers

If you’re going to get stuck in airport, try to make it YVR. Of course, that’s the airport code for the Vancouver International Airport, which has been named 2016’s world’s best airport by the CAPA Centre for Aviation.

The award is given to airports who have advanced the progress of the aviation industry globally.

Passenger traffic to YVR increased by five per cent last year to 20.3 million travelers — this year, they expect visits to increase up to 23 million.

“This is an incredible achievement and is a testament to YVR’s success and our growing influence on the world stage,” said Craig Richmond, YVR’s President and CEO. “We have achieved this milestone thanks to our focus on safety, teamwork, accountability and innovation—and our community based, not-for-profit governance model, under which we constantly improve the airport for our passengers, our partners and our communities.”
