Kacey Musgraves, ‘Slow Burn’

A highlight from the country singer-songwriter's fantastic fourth album

Country singer-songwriter Kacey Musgraves is making a Taylor Swift-style country-pop crossover bid with her latest album, Golden Hour.

Leading the album is the gentle “Slow Burn,” a charming and sweet ode to taking your time and letting “the world turn.”

Appropriately, the song slowly blooms and hits its full stride in the second verse.

My favourite moment is there, too: “You know the bar down the street don’t close for an hour / We should take a walk / And look at all the flowers.” The way Musgraves sings “flowers” is perfection, with the touch of a Texas slow-drawl.

If you’re listening to this song while stuck in traffic or manically bustling through your morning routine, “Slow Burn” will lower your blood pressure significantly.

“Slow Burn” is beautiful, brilliant and affecting, like the rest of Golden Hour.
