Nearly four years after its launch, Nintendo’s Wii U may soon be no more. According to a report by Japan’s Nikkei, Nintendo will end production of the Wii U in 2016.

The timing could potentially coincide with the rumoured 2016 launch of Nintendo’s new system, code-named NX.

According to Nintendo, 12.6 million Wii U consoles have been sold worldwide, 6.1 million of those in the Americas. Those numbers pale in comparison to the PlayStation 4, which has sold almost three times the amount of consoles in a shorter period of time.
